Juan David Castaño – Class: Percussion and popular musical languages from the Caribbean and the Antilles
We will study the history, the geography, and the culture of the main Caribbean islands such as: Cuba, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, as well as their main rhythms like salsa, Cuban Son, bomba and Puerto Rican Plena, reggae, ska, dancehall, bolero, Cuban rumba, and bembé.
Course I: One 2-hour-long class (It includes a playlist of video clips, documentaries, and a tutorial).
Course II: Four 1-hour-long classes (It includes a playlist of video clips, documentaries, and a tutorial).
For all levels.
Requirements: knowledge of video-editing apps like Acapella, Kine Master or any other one that helps us edit and record exercises on video. It is preferred to have the instruments: bass drum, cununo, guasá, and marimba, but if you don’t have them, we can work with household items like tables, chairs, buckets, pots, bottles, etc.
