Juan Andrés Ospina
Juan Andrés Ospina is one of the most active representatives of a renowned generation of Colombian musicians. His multi-talented spectrum is wide, and that is why it is difficult to define his work in a specific category: You can find him producing and arranging for an artist, directing and playing his music for big band, playing the piano as “sideman” for some project, composing music for cinema, or creating comic content for the social media.
He has worked alongside great musicians such as Paquito D’Rivera, Bobby McFerrin, Marta Gómez, Luisa Sobral, Sofia Ribeiro and Banda Magda, among others. He has presented his big band music with his own big band in the legendary Dizzy’s Coca Cola of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York, the legendary WDR Big Band in Germany, the Tip Toe BigBand in Denmark, and the Big Band Bogotá in Colombia.
He has written arrangements for the Symphonic Orchestra of Bogotá and the Metropol Orkest of The Netherlands, and he has also been producer of albums like “Este Instante” by Marta Gómez (nominated to 2 Latin Grammys), “The cherry on my cake” by Luisa Sobral (winner of platinum record and multiple awards in Europe), and the last three records of the Portuguese singer Sofia Ribeiro, among many others.
Alongside his job as a songwriter, producer, arranger, and pianist, he leads the duo “Inténtalo Carito” with his brother Nicolás Ospina. Together, they have performed in festivals in Australia, Spain, the United States, and Colombia; and their work has been reviewed by communication media from all around the world.
